The Destination

Croatia is a country with many faces : a long coastline, the Dinaric mountains and the Pannonian Plains. The coast has a Mediterranean climate with rocky landscapes and scrub vegetation. Many small villages have kept the spirit of ancient times. The mountains harbour pearls of nature shaped by the meeting of elements, such as the Plitvice Lakes. Continental fertile plains toward the Danube are rich by their feudal and baroque architecture.

It is a land where every stone tells a story. History that often goes far back in the past, as the Adriatic Sea, bay of the Mediterranean Sea contained between the Italian boot and the Balkan Peninsula, was an important trade route up to the 17th century. Indeed, it was the link between Europe and Middle Asia.

A Route already used by the ancient Celts, when they appear around 3000 BC north of the Balkans, and then taken over by the Greeks, then the Romans and finally by the Croats when they arrive in the 7th century AD.

croatia cakeThus the origin of the coastal cities often goes far back in antiquity. Trogir, also known for its outstanding medieval cathedral, was an ancient Greek colony. The city of Split is located in the walls of the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, still legible today, permanently rebuilt through the ages to give a magma of architectural styles still boiling.

This story is conditioned by the great opportunity that represent the 1200 islands of Croatia, one of the highest concentrations of islands in the world ! In addition, these islands have a special configuration: long, thin and forming parallel lines and therefore navigation channels that will attract the traffic of the trade route. This issue also explains lusts, especially of Byzantine and then of Venice.

The Balkans is a transition zone where religious movements and civilizations have faced throughout history.

mostarBosnia and Herzegovina is another world on the other side of the cultural border between Europe and Asia Minor, illustrated in the cities Sarajevo or Mostar known for the famous bridge that was called "the hyphen between Occident and Orient."

dubrovnik Dubrovnik is a very original historical phenomenon, a small system that took advantage of his heritage to develop a trade city-state of great wealth, rivalling Venice for control of the commercial area of the Adriatic Sea. By diplomacy, the system of the Republic of Dubrovnik managed to preserve its freedom through the centuries and enriched both financially and culturally. The harmony of architecture puts man in the centre and raises him to all his greatness. A unique experience.

budva montenegroMontenegro is a country south of Croatia. It marks the border between the northern Balkans featured by European Catholic tradition and the southern Balkans with long Orthodox Byzantine influence. It offers superb mountains sceneries and a beautiful coastline with free trading cities like Kotor and Budva.

budva montenegroSlovenia lies at the meeting of the Dinaric chains, characterizing the Balkans, and the Alps. It is one of the greenest countries in Europe keeping many treasures in his underground as the Postojna or Škocjan caves. Its identity is marked by its mountain climate and influences of the powers of central Europe.
